President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this afternoon held a closed door meeting with his Tanzanian counterpart John Pombe Magufuli focusing on Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and the Eastern African Community to strengthen their business ties under the East African Community.
The two principals further discussed transport leakages, joint electricity undertakings, joint oil pipeline and strengthening their diplomatic ties.
Museveni who left for Tanzania today morning on a two day state visit on Magufuli’s invitation was received by a 21 gun salute.
He there after inspected the guard of honour.
The NRM chairman will tomorrow visit factories in Dar es Salaam before being seen off by his host.
Museveni, in 1967 went to the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania where he studied economics and political science and became a Marxist, involving himself in radical pan-African politics.
While at university, he formed the University Students’ African Revolutionary Front activist group and led a student delegation to FRELIMO territory in Portuguese Mozambique, where he received guerrilla training.
He wrote a university thesis on revolutionary violence to post-colonial Africa.
He is among a few East African leaders advocating for regional integration. He believes the bloc can be a business hub for Africa once the 6 nations amalgamate.
