M7: India not aggressive like some western countries

Museveni greets India's Ansari at State House Entebbe this evening

 

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has heaped praises on India describing it as a true friend of republic of Uganda right after colonialism.

Museveni made the remarks on a joint media briefing at State House Entebbe with Indian vice president Hamid Ansari who will spend 3 days in the country on a state visit.

“We fought against colonialism together during the times of Mahatma Gandhi as well as Nehru who helped us while fighting for independence, “Museveni said.

“You are good friends and you don’t come to give lecturers here. We respect each other.”

He added that the two countries have had a good working relationship in fields of medicine, transport, education, military among others.

“The cooperation will continue to flourish,” the President pledged.

Museveni reiterated is disappointment in president Iddi Amin’s reign for expelling Indians which slowed down development.

“UK and Canada benefitted a lot from those Indians and cities like Leicester were built by these Indian Ugandans expelled by Amin,”Museveni noted.

The Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari said the meeting between the 2 leaders would be fruitful and help in more cooperation especially in the energy sector through atomic energy.

“President Museveni has always been a good friend of India and we appreciate this,” Ansari said.
