Besigye: EALA elections a waste of time

FDC presidential candidate Col Kizza Besigye Kifefe has described the incoming East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) polls as diversionary when the country is largely facing economic and political crisis.

He urged the people of Uganda to remain focused.

EALA elections are slated for 27th when MPs will vote for 9 candidates across the political divide to represent Uganda in the regional Parliament.

Political actors are currently canvassing for support of different contestants, “it is now the talk of town,” Besigye wondered.

He made the remark earlier in the day while addressing the media at his offices along Katonga road in Kampala.

“There is a huge crisis in the country, the Karamajongs are now pouring in Teso and Lango and uprooting cassava where it can be found. But the whole country is focussed on EALA,” Besigye said.

He appealed to the media to turn cameras and or focus on critical issues affecting the country such as the illegitimate government in power, the collapsing economy, the poor health services, the regional brewing tension causing the refuge crisis and finally the question of land.

He warned against the incoming land amendment that seeks to grab people’s land by changing all land to be public. He says while it may be by law that government can use land for development, there should be adequate compensation.

“Land grabbing is being occasioned by the predatory regime whose focus is to impoverish people so that they can remain prey to the regime,” Besigye said.

Therefore he informed the country that the People’s Govt is going to carry out country wide sensitisation on land issues so that even people willing to sell their land are aware of the land policy and rights.
