NRM favourite candidates floored in EALA polls

Kagingo is among favourite candidates who lost

The National Resistance Movement party last night  elected six candidates for the East African Legislative Assembly.

The elections were previously suspended by the party chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni after chaos erupted as a result of bribery claims.

Tang Odoi, the party electoral chairman was embroiled in a bitter verbal exchange with secretary general Hon Justine Lumumba Kasule before he fled State House, Entebbe.

Odoi last night  announced winners amidst jubilation at State House Entebbe where the poll took place.

Those elected the former minister for Internal Affairs Rose Akol, former Lira Resident District Commissioner George Odongo and former Kakuto Member of Parliament Matia Kasamba.

Others elected are former minister and Nyabushozi Coutny MP Mary Mugyenyi, Denis Namara and Paul Musamali who has been working as Chief Policy Analyst for the Office of the Government Chief Whip.

Performance

Paul Musamali polled 157, Rose Akol 139, Mary Mugyenyi 115, George Odongo 119, Namara Dennis 114 and Mathias Kasamba 119.

Those perceived as favourites, Sarah Kagingo, former MP Yona Musinguzi and Emmanuel Dombo lost miserably.

It is said that Yona and Kagingo dished out a lot of money in the election which sparked off the chaos as their opponents cited bribery.

Dombo had earlier withdrawn from the race and bounced back

The main election is slated for 27th at the Parliament of Uganda.
