Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) commissioner general, Doris Akol will today re-appear before the Parliamentary Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) chaired by Bugweri County lawmaker Abdul Katuntu to explain how she obtained shs 6b as a reward from the President.
Katuntu and his committee grilled Akol and her juniors for whole day as he sought to know whether the receivers requested for the money or it was an offer from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
While Akol and group were resolute that the ‘handshake’ wasn’t requested for, they failed to provide documents justifying their claim. But rather, Akol tabled a letter from Attorney General (then) Fredrick Ruhindi reminding Museveni about the handshake.
She told Katuntu that after winning the oil case against Heritage, Museveni was happy for the team to have saved the country of billions of money and he proposed to reward them.
Katuntu dismissed this assertion as baseless since Akol couldn’t provide evidence that indeed it’s Museveni who initiated the payment.
Whereas as the previous documents indicated that the beneficiaries were 42, it emerged that they are 26 meaning figures were inflated.
Recently Museveni acknowledged that the handshake was deliberate but asked Parliament to probe some names on the list.
Katuntu now has 59 days to conduct his investigations.
At a later time, the beneficiaries will faceoff with Katuntu committee individually.
