Exclusive: Byanyima family hires private investigator for Kanyamunyus

Daughters of ageing Democratic Party (DP) diehard Boniface Byanyima have vowed to leave no stone unturned in a court battle in which two sons of their deceased relative are facing murder charges.

Joseph Kanyamunyu a reputable public relations practitioner, Mathew Kanyamunyu a city businessman and his Burundian girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari are accused of killing Kenneth Akena last year who worked for an NGO in Gulu.

Background

On the fateful evening in Lugogo (a crime of scene which up to now police has failed to ascertain), its alleged Mathew Kanyamunyu pulled  trigger and shot Akena two times in the stomach after the deceased knocked his car Toyota Prado.

It later emerged that, Kanyamunyu who was in company of his girlfriend rushed a bleeding Akena to Nakasero Hospital who breathed his last on arrival.

Whereas Kanyamunyu told police that he helped Akena as a Good Samaritan, the deceased’s brother insisted that before he died, Akena told him that, “the people who brought me are the ones who shot me.”

Akena’s dying declaration was enough for the Court of Public Opinion to convict Kanyamunyu as a murder together with his fiancé Munwangari.

However, the authorities and police detectives laboured to establish what exactly happened on the evening of November 12 last year.

Until today it is still a nightmare for the police investigators as they have failed to ascertain evidence that shows Kanyamunyu is the killer.

Investigators don’t know where the crime scene is because there were no drops of human blood to indicate a shooting, Police has failed to recover the gun which Kanyamunyu allegedly used and up to today police has never got a witness who pins Kanyamunyu as a killer.

All that Police bank on is the dying declaration by late Akena, but whether it is recorded that remains unknown.

Private Investigators

TrumpetNews has reliably learnt that Edith Byanyima and Winnie Byanyima the head of Oxfarm who raised the two boys when they lost their dad James Arthur a reputable evangelist and businessman, who was killed by dictator Iddi Amin, have hired a private investigator from South Africa.

South Africa is one of the top African countries with an overwhelming high crime rate.

This Website understands that Joseph Kanyamunyu is in prison as an accomplice who hid the killer gun. After the tragedy, police obtained phone printouts which showed that Mathew repeatedly talked to his brother Joseph.

Joseph was arrested many days after the incident, if it is true he hid the gun then the possibility is police will never recover it. “What if he threw it in a lake, in a pit latrine or buried it at a certain island?” all those are questions that authorities can’t answer.

Mathew Kanyamunyu from the time of his arrest has maintained a version that Akena was trailing him and he stopped at Lugogo to ask what the matter was. Where the bullet came from, who fired it is something that he never answers.

TrumpetNews however understands that, Mathew Kanyamunyu confided in his close family members that Akena who was travelling in a Toyota Premio trailed him from a certain city hangout and when they reached at the lugogo –road island- near Kyadondo grounds he told his fiancé Cynthia who was driving to stop. In that process, Akena came and blocked him thus scratching the car behind. Kanyamunyu asked if they say that he was the one chasing Akena how come Akena’s car was scratched in front.

“It is at that point that Kanyamunyu got out of the car to ask Akena why he was trailing him and someone who was in the same car with Akena fired a bullet targeting either him (Kanyamunyu) or his girlfriend Cynthia,” a relative said.

That labouring to take Akena to the hospital, Kanyamunyu’s motive was to interrogate the deceased who was the person who shot a bullet.

Unfortunately, the public can’t have an iota of trust in this version.

The Private investigator has already commenced his work and all the relatives are saying, “we are ready to face-off with Akena’s family in Court.”

This case has so far sparked off tribal undertones after Winnie Byanyima a wife to a prominent opposition leader Kizza Besigye flew from US to stand surety for Kanyamunyus.

But the only people who can describe what happened are three, Mathew, Cynthia and Akena had he survived (RIP).
