Oil cash bonanza: EC’s Rwakoojo tightens grip on lawyer Sabiiti

The Secretary of Electoral Commission (EC) Sam Rwakoojo  has summoned lawyer Eric Sabiiti to appear before the management on Monday 16th and explain his intentions of petitioning Court a matter that caused paralysis putting several  arms of government on collision path.

In a letter seen by TrumpetNews, Rwakoojo describes Sabiiti’s action as rushed, reckless and wantonly disregarded the expected decorum of a public servant.

“As a result your name was widely carried on various media platforms all the time bringing the name of your employer (EC) whereas it wasn’t party to your adventures,” Rwakoojo indicated.

He indicated that that Sabiiti’s action contravened Uganda Public Service standing order which enjoins him (Sabiiti) as a public officer who must seek an approval from the secretary before instituting such proceedings.

“This therefore is to ask you to give your response as soon as possible in any case not later than Monday 16th January 2017,” Rwakoojo directed.

Sabiiti on Monday lodged a petition in the Constitutional Court seeking to bar Parliament from probing government officials who received hefty sums of money as a bonus after litigation process against Heritage in London.

As a result Deputy Chief Justice Stephen Kavuma issued an interim injunction blocking any government authority from questioning these officials.

Kavuma’s order aroused debate with Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga regarding it as ‘stupid’ and directed the Attorney General challenge it in Court.

However, on Thursday Sabiiti withdraw his petition from the Constitution Court.
