Opposition icon Col Kizza Besigye today re-affirmed his position that the people’s government was formed to foster the aspirations of Ugandans who want change.
Besigye, was last year incarcerated for months in Luzira prison for illegally declaring himself a duly elected leader of Uganda.
Besigye went ahead to form his own parallel cabinet. However, It is unconstitutional to have two co-existing presidents in Uganda.
Besigye, while delivering his New Year message told the press at his offices at Katonga road in Kampala that, “the people’s government is not a hoax it is real.”
Adding that one of its core objective is to assert the will of Ugandans to cause a transition in a democratic dispensation. “That transition is unstoppable whether they like it or not,” Besigye roared.
He said this will only be achieved through a long tested struggle of non violence. “A struggle of the ordinary people defying a cable of dictatorship,” he explained.
Besigye lashed at the political elite who have consistently bashed the defiance campaign as a route to causing anarchy in country saying, “the political elite totally have no clue of what defiance is all about. Some think it is about street battles while others say it is illegal. I would interest the so called elite to understand what defiance is all about.”
He expounded that defiance has three processes but apparently they are in the first stage of changing the mindset of Ugandans through which they are developing leadership and communication networks.
The powerful opposition leader suggested that Uganda needs a new set of leaders who are fully committed to regain their supremacy. “We don’t want leaders who are Smembers of the political elite that were trained to be servants not masters,” he said. He advised that if one wants to be part of the People’s government network, the first step is to be vigilante and on ground.
