Ugandans across all regions of the country unanimously want President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to quit office at the end of his 5th tern in 2021, a new opinion poll released Tuesday morning at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala suggests.
This poll was conducted by a renowned researcher Dr. Patrick Wakida, the director of Research World International (RWI) and funded by Uganda National NGO Forum headed by Richard Ssewakiryange.
While launching the report, Wakida said it was carried out between September and October with a sample of 2252 respondents. “This was part of the long standing Partnership that RWI has with Uganda National NGO Forum on behalf of Uganda Governance Monitoring Platform,” Wakida said.
He added that the objective was to provide a picture of citizens’ perceptions on the state governance in Uganda, in the post election epoch. He further said the findings would be used to trigger public discussions on the state of governance in Uganda.
“The scope covered included social, political, economic and cultural issues in Uganda,” said Wakida. This house hold survey was conducted in 60 districts of Ugandans. The highest number of Ugandans who want Museveni to hang boots in 2021 are from Kampala at 87%, 81% in central Uganda, 67% in the north and south and 73% in Eastern Uganda.
Only 18% of Ugandans think Museveni should stand again for the 6th term of office in the next election.
77% of Male Ugandans think Museveni shouldn’t contest again and 70% of women.
