KCCA Carnival leaves Kampala gaping with excitement and awe
The annual KCCA carnival ended last Sunday. Over 150,000 thousand city dwellers thronged the city carnival that had KCCA ED Jenniffer Musisi as the host. The celebrations that started off on Saturday 1st October before climaxing on Sunday 02nd October was all about pomp, music, alcohol, food, outlandish dressing, a rowdy crowd and all manner of activities.
The invite – only VIP Tents
These were a preserve for Kampala’s rich and loaded elite. The Kampala Casino VIP tent was the most sought after. With a strictly only-by-invite entrance, the ordinary revelers looked on as top shots gobbled chicken wings and washed them down with expensive liquor. The guests were treated to a good view of the main stage where artists sang their lungs out.
Who is who guest list
The guest list of the invited guests in the VIP tents read like a list of Kampala’s most loaded, educated or hold positions of influence. These people included UBL Board Member Dr. Martin Aliker and his wife, Kampala Casino boss and host-Bob Kabonero, African Alliance’s Ken Kitariko, Gen. Aronda’s widow Linda, URSB Chairman Dr. Andrew Kasirye, celebrated army man Leo Kyanda, Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, FDC’s Sebugwawo, the KCCA ED Jenniffer Musisi and others like Dr. Sabrina Kitaka.
Brands tussling
The festival is also a chance for brands to try showcase their commercial edge and to tussle for customers. Movit products had horses, bikes and a camel, Africell had boda boda riders, skaters and stiltmen, Mtn had skaters and a giant rig while Uganda breweries had revelers walking home in italics. Brand goodies from T-shirts to caps, bandanas, free product trials were available to partake.
